How to get around

City public transport

Public transportation in Belgrade is free for all passengers. This measure covers all city and suburban lines, including buses, trams, trolleybuses, and the BG Train. If you want to visit the city’s sights outside the centre, public transportation is an ideal option.

Walking ー best way to feel the energy of the vibrant streets

October is one of the best months to visit the city, with pleasantly mild weather. Belgrade is a treasure trove of history, culture, and culinary influences from both East and West. Most of the main attractions are located in the compact city centre and could be easily reached on foot.

What to see?

Around the central city square...

...the Republic Square (Trg Republike) with the Prince Mihailo Monument, the National Museum, and the

National Theatre, the Serbian Academy of Science and Arts (SASA), and nearby is the Student Square with the two main classical music concert halls ー the Ilija M. Kolarac Endowment and Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra.
In Kneza Mihaila Street and the side alleys, there are many places where you can enjoy diverse food options.

Kosančićev venac...

...where the University of Arts in Belgrade is located ー the oldest urban part of the city that has preserved part
of the archaic atmosphere of the 19th century, with its cobblestones, courtyards and buildings built in the
Balkan-oriental style like the oldest tavern in Belgrade ー Znak pitanja “?”, where people still sit on tripods and
low sofas and eat old traditional Serbian dishes. Nearby are Konak kneginje Ljubice, the Cathedral, and the Patriarch’s Palace building with the permanent exhibition of the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The whole area is dotted with small cafes and restaurants overlooking the river, galleries and wineries with a
sense of intimacy. For a more contemporary experience of the city, take the well-known stairs near the
University down to the “Beton Hala” area, a transformed industrial zone by the river, and treat yourself
to the many restaurants there.

Kalemegdan park...

...walk through the Belgrade Fortress, visit Ružica Church, and “Victor” (Победник), the most famous symbol of Belgrade, while enjoying the beautiful view of the confluence of the Sava and the Danube rivers.

Skadarlija (Bohemian Quarter)...

...get a taste of authentic local food in many restaurants with a long tradition and experience a classic bohemian atmosphere in the oldest part of Belgrade, with Ottoman heritage, the oldest residential house and the museum
of Serbian language.

Slavija Square...

...where the Faculty of Music is located. Nearby are the National Parliament, Tašmajdan park, with the beautiful Saint Mark’s Church, the Nikola Tesla Museum, the National Library of Serbia and the glorious Saint Sava Temple.

Useful info

The Serbian language uses both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets. This means that all road names and signs will be written in both alphabets.

*Caution regarding the current socio-political situation

Belgrade is a vibrant and generally safe city. However, please be aware that local protests and street blockades may occasionally occur, especially in the central areas. These are typically announced in advance. We recommend checking local news sources or consulting with the Organizing Committee for real-time updates on traffic and public transport.

Wishing you
a memorable stay!
